In a dramatic development following a recent tragic event, Jacob Van Rootselaar, the elder brother of school shooter Jesse Van Rootselaar, has been apprehended on a Canada-wide warrant for attempted murder. This arrest comes less than two weeks after his sibling’s devastating attack.
The 22-year-old was detained on Friday in Sylvan Lake, Alberta, connected to an incident involving a weapon in 2024, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police as reported by CJDC TV.

Authorities had previously tried to contact Jacob at his designated residence in Dawson Creek, British Columbia. However, he was not found there, prompting a relocation of his approved address to Tumbler Ridge, and subsequently, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Sabrina Clayton mentioned to the media outlet that she was uncertain if this police inquiry was linked to the investigation into the February 10 attack carried out by Jesse Van Rootselaar at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School—the second-most severe school shooting in Canada’s history.
In that tragic incident, 18-year-old Jesse Van Rootselaar claimed the lives of eight people, including his mother and 11-year-old stepbrother. He then proceeded to Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, where he killed a teacher and six students, injured 25 others, and ultimately ended his own life.
