“Hearts of Heroes” returns for its much-anticipated eighth season, once again spotlighting remarkable rescues and the people whose courage changes lives.
This season also brings a new face to the series, with Brooke Shields joining as co-host alongside disaster recovery expert Sheldon Yellen. Together, they guide viewers through powerful stories of survival, sacrifice and emotional reunions.
“You watch real people doing beautiful acts,” Shields says, describing the emotional pull of the series.
Yellen says what stands out most is the character of the rescuers themselves. “Humility,” he adds. “The humility is incredible.”
For Shields, the appeal of the show lies in its authenticity. “What attracted me when I was lucky enough to be asked to be a co-host and a part of the show was, you know, these are real-life stories,” she says. “As an actress, I tell stories, but these are the real-life heroes.”
At its core, the series examines just how far first responders and everyday heroes are willing to go when lives are on the line.
“It’s an all-in commitment, it’s a lifestyle, it’s a passion,” Yellen says. “It’s a way of life that they cannot get away from, and the commitment to putting their lives at risk is really something extraordinary.”
From hurricanes and tornadoes to car crashes and fires, “Hearts of Heroes” brings survivors face to face with the extraordinary people who helped save them. In Season 8, those stories promise to be even more intense, emotional and inspiring.
“There’s an unconscious man in a car stuck on a train track with just seconds who was removed from that situation by two brave police officers,” says Yellen.
“There are so many incredible stories,” says Shields. “One guy basically dove into the jaws of an alligator. It’s so nice to watch something that is so celebratory, that everybody can cheer for, that makes everybody feel good. We need that.”
“Hearts of Heroes” Season 8 premieres July 11 on ABC.
