On a tense Saturday afternoon, Brown University found itself at the center of a dramatic situation as officials responded to reports of an active shooter on campus. The incident unfolded near the Barus and Holley engineering building, prompting swift action from both the university and local law enforcement.

In an urgent voicemail sent to students, university officials communicated the gravity of the situation, confirming the presence of an active shooter in the vicinity. This was followed by a text alert urging students to “lock doors, silence phones and stay hidden until further notice,” underscoring the severity and immediacy of the threat.

The Providence Police Department quickly mobilized, establishing a significant presence around Brown University. On social media platform X, they informed the public of the “heavy” deployment of police and fire department personnel concentrated on Hope Street, a critical area adjacent to the university.
