In Austin, Texas, a series of overnight shootings have left four individuals injured, prompting a swift police response. Authorities have successfully apprehended two suspects, while a third remains on the loose.
The incidents began on Saturday night and extended into Sunday, primarily affecting the south Austin area, according to Austin Mayor Kirk Watson. Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis reported a total of 12 separate shooting incidents.
Among those injured, one person has sustained serious injuries. Despite the number of incidents, investigators are yet to determine a motive, describing the shootings as seemingly random in nature.
The suspects reportedly used multiple vehicles, including a black or blue Hyundai, a gold Hyundai, a silver Mazda, and a white Kia Optima, frequently changing cars during their activities. It is believed that stolen firearms were employed in the shootings.
Police have identified the suspects as Hispanic males in their late teens. Currently, two suspects aged 15 and 17 are in custody, while efforts continue to locate a third suspect, who is believed to be in the Manor area.
Initially, authorities urged residents of south Austin to remain indoors for their safety. However, the shelter-in-place order has since been lifted, as announced in a police update shared via social media on Sunday afternoon.
City officials advised citizens to remain vigilant and call 911 if they notice anything suspicious. Authorities also reminded the public not to leave their cars unlocked and not to leave keys in their vehicles.
This is a developing story. Eyewitness News is continuing to gather facts.
