Bank of America Chicago Marathon 2025: Full list of street closures in Grant Park area

CHICAGO (WLS) — As thousands of runners prepare for the Chicago Marathon this Sunday, roads surrounding Grant Park are already being closed off for the event.

About 53,000 runners from more than 130 countries will run through 29 neighborhoods for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon.

Ahead of the 26.2-mile race on Sunday, the Abbott Chicago 5K will take place at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 11.

Chicago’s Office of Emergency Management and Communications released a list of weekend street closures.

The following streets will be closed between 6:30 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. for the 5K on Saturday:

Road closures include:
– Ida B. Wells Dr. from Columbus Dr. to Michigan Ave.
– E. Congress Plaza Dr. from Ida B. Wells Dr. to Michigan Ave.
– Michigan Ave. from Ida B. Wells Dr. to Balbo Dr.
– Harrison St. from Michigan Ave. to Franklin St.
– State St. from E. Harrison St. to W. Harrison St.
– Franklin St. from Harrison St. to Adams St.
– Van Buren St. from Wacker Dr. to Franklin St.
– Southbound Wacker Dr. from Michigan Ave. to Van Buren St.
– Northbound Wacker Dr. from Adams St. to Michigan Ave.
– Jackson Blvd. from Wacker Dr. to Franklin St.
– Wacker Dr. between Adams St. and Van Buren St. will remain closed from 5 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Bank of America Chicago Street Closures

Closures around the Grant Park area began Thursday, as Balbo from Columbus to DuSable Lake Shore Drive was shut down. This will reopen by 3 p.m. on Friday, October 17.

On Thursday, Oct. 9, the following closures will take place:

Other closures include:
– Jackson Dr. from Columbus Dr. to DuSable Lake Shore Dr., which will shut at 10 a.m. and reopen by Tuesday at 6 a.m.
– Balbo Dr. from Michigan Ave. to Columbus Dr. closing at 4 a.m., reopening Monday at 3 p.m.
– Columbus Dr. from Ida B. Wells Dr. to Balbo Dr. shutting at 4 a.m., reopening Monday at 3 p.m.
– Columbus Dr. from Balbo Dr. to Roosevelt Rd. closing at 4 a.m., reopening Monday at 3 p.m.

On Friday, Oct. 10, the following closures will take place:

– Columbus Dr. from Monroe St. to Jackson Dr. closing at 4 a.m., reopening by Sunday at 8 p.m.
– Columbus Dr. from Jackson Dr. to Ida B. Wells Dr. will close at 4 a.m. and reopen Sunday at 8 p.m.
– Congress Plaza Dr. from Michigan Ave. (between Van Buren St. and Harrison St.) closes at 4 a.m., reopening by 8 p.m. Sunday.
– Jackson Dr. from Michigan Ave. to Columbus Dr. will close at 4 a.m. and reopen by 8 p.m. on Sunday.

On Saturday, Oct. 11, the following closures will take place:

– Columbus Dr. from Randolph St. to Monroe St. will be closed from 4 a.m., reopening by Sunday at 2 p.m.
– Roosevelt Rd. from Columbus Dr. to DuSable Lake Shore Dr. shuts down at 11 a.m., reopening Sunday at 6 p.m.
– Monroe St. from Michigan Ave. to Columbus Dr. will close at 4 a.m. and reopen by 2 p.m. Sunday.
– Monroe St. from Columbus Dr. to DuSable Lake Shore Dr. will close at 4 a.m., reopening by Sunday at 3 p.m.

All streets will be fully reopened by Friday, October 17 at 3 p.m.
