Shelter-in-place order lifted in Chicago suburb as police hunt suspect after reported shooting

In a Chicago suburb, the police lifted a shelter-in-place order on Thursday as they continued their search for a suspect following a reported shooting in Lansing, Illinois.

According to reports from FOX 32 Chicago, Lansing police had earlier advised residents near the 2700 block of 170th Street to remain indoors while officers hunted for a suspect who had fled the scene. The shelter-in-place directive has since been rescinded.

The authorities provided a description of the suspect, identifying him as a Black male, around 5 feet 8 inches tall, and weighing approximately 160 pounds. He was last observed heading south from 170th Street, dressed in a black do-rag, black hoodie, and a white surgical mask.

Audio from dispatch communications, reviewed by a news agency, revealed that authorities were responding to reports of an active shooter at a chemical plant, located just across the street from the Lansing Police Department on 170th Street.

In the audio, a man is overheard stating that a helicopter was deployed, and efforts were underway to locate a K9 unit. The man also remarked, “The offender shot every foreign subject in the business.”

Lansing police have not publicly confirmed details contained in the dispatch audio, including the nature of the incident or whether anyone was injured.

The circumstances surrounding the incident were not immediately clear. News Agency has reached out to the Lansing Police Department and Nippon Paint for additional information.
