Road rage shooting in Clay County leaves 18-year-old injured; man arrested

A 62-year-old man named Ruben Rodriguez is currently facing three charges of attempted murder following a violent road rage episode.

In Clay County, Florida, Rodriguez was apprehended on Wednesday evening, accused of shooting and wounding an 18-year-old during the altercation, according to the arrest documentation.

He has been formally charged with three counts of attempted murder.

The incident took place around 5:39 p.m. along Blanding Boulevard, as reported by the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, who received numerous emergency calls concerning the event.

Evan Sherman, aged 18, was among the injured, having sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh. He was receiving medical attention at HCA Middleburg when law enforcement officials arrived. The other two victims, 17-year-old Wyatt Albritton and 18-year-old Jacob Dollinger, also sustained injuries, as noted in the report.

The Sheriff’s Office disclosed that Rodriguez allegedly fired at the teenagers from his black Chevrolet pickup truck. While the arrest report is heavily censored, leaving the specifics of the confrontation unclear, deputies confirmed that they had sufficient grounds to detain Rodriguez.

The report says a black and tan semi-automatic handgun was found in “plain view” between the driver’s seat and center console in Rodriguez’s truck. It further states that there were several times when he “could have removed himself from the situation by pulling off the roadway or contacting law enforcement.”

Rodriguez was arrested at 5:51 p.m. Wednesday, and then was taken to the Clay County Jail. He has been given a $750,009 bond.
