In 2022, Republican Representative Monica De La Cruz made history by becoming the first Republican to represent Texas’s 15th Congressional District, a region that had always been under Democratic control. Her victory marked a significant milestone for Republicans and conservative Latinos in South Texas.
De La Cruz successfully defended her seat in the 2024 election, defeating Michelle Vallejo once again. However, her current Democratic challenger brings a different kind of celebrity to the race. Bobby Pulido, a renowned Tejano singer and two-time Latin Grammy award winner, emerged victorious in the March Democratic primary, defeating emergency room physician Ada Cuellar, who is not related to Congressman Henry Cuellar.
While Pulido aims to reclaim the district for the Democrats, his campaign faces challenges due to a controversial social media presence that is already drawing scrutiny as the general election campaign heats up.
