Denver’s Jewish Community Fears Rising Antisemitism

– Denver’s Jewish community alarmed by the rise of democratic socialist Melat Kiros
– Fetterman rips reporter from anti-Israel outlet he branded “trash”
– Piers Morgan challenges Ivy League student over refusal to work “for a Jew”

Denver’s Jewish community is on edge after 29-year-old Democratic Socialist Melat Kiros scored a stunning primary victory. Local Jewish leaders say her rhetoric has intensified fears, pointing to comments blaming Israel for antisemitism in the U.S. and her refusal to describe a deadly local firebombing as an antisemitic hate crime. They warn the fallout has included violent threats and left some visibly Jewish residents afraid to walk openly in their own neighborhoods.

Just hours before President Trump said Hamas had accepted a roadmap that includes disarmament, Israeli President Isaac Herzog spoke about the U.S.-Israel alliance, Iran, Mamdani and other pressing issues shaping the Middle East and American politics.

Pro-Israel Sen. John Fetterman confronted a reporter on Capitol Hill, deriding the outlet as “trash” and accusing it of sympathizing with Hamas, Iran and Hezbollah. The Pennsylvania Democrat said he enjoys seeing Israel take out terrorist leaders and made clear he intends to continue standing firmly with the Jewish state.

Piers Morgan erupted at a 21-year-old Ivy League student who refused to back down after telling a startup, “I’m not interested in working for a Jew.” Morgan called the student, Franco, “thick” and antisemitic during the fiery exchange, while Franco’s parents reportedly threw him out of their home after he declined to apologize for the remark.

A New Jersey man received a six-month sentence after repeatedly driving his car into a well-known Brooklyn synagogue. Dan Sohail crashed through protective barriers and struck the Chabad Lubavitch World Headquarters five times during a January rampage. The federal sentence means he is expected to walk free in about a week.

Sydney Altfield, CEO of Teach Coalition, argues that with antisemitic hate crimes rising in schools and online, students need stronger protection this school year. She writes that confronting the crisis requires a broad response, including firm school policies, mandatory education, tougher enforcement by online platforms and increased federal funding for security.

“Mamdani does not respect my nation’s right for self-determination, the Jewish people’s inherent right to have a nation of their own. And he’s basically spreading blasphemy, hate, antisemitic rhetoric. He should understand that he’s risking his own citizens. He’s risking their safety, well-being and life.” – Israeli President Isaac Herzog.
