Some F1 races will air live in IMAX theaters this season. Here's what to know

In an exciting development for motorsports enthusiasts, Apple TV has partnered with Formula 1 to bring five of the most beloved Grand Prix races to a new audience: theatergoers. Select IMAX theaters across the country will provide fans with a larger-than-life viewing experience, starting with the 2026 season.

WASHINGTON — The upcoming Formula 1 season is set to offer more than just new cars and a fresh team dynamic. This year, race fans can look forward to an innovative way to enjoy the thrill of live racing — by watching it on the big screen in select IMAX theaters.

IMAX announced this collaboration with enthusiasm, inviting fans to “experience the pulse-pounding thrills of the 2026 Formula One season – live in IMAX.” Spectators will be able to immerse themselves in the heart-stopping excitement of races from Miami to Monza, witnessing every twist, lap, and checkered flag as if they were on the track themselves.

While this announcement has generated considerable buzz, details such as the specific theaters participating and ticket pricing remain under wraps. Fans eagerly await more information as the season approaches.

This initiative marks the beginning of Apple TV’s multi-year deal to hold broadcasting rights in the United States, starting with the 2026 Formula 1 season. This partnership promises to redefine how fans engage with the sport, offering a cinematic dimension to the high-octane world of racing.

Which F1 races will be live in IMAX theaters?

  • Miami Grand Prix – May 3, 2026, 4 p.m. ET
  • Monaco Grand Prix – June 7, 2026, 9 a.m. ET
  • British Grand Prix (Silverstone) – July 5, 2026, 10 a.m. ET
  • Italian Grand Prix (Monza) – September 6, 2026, 9 a.m. ET
  • United States Grand Prix (Austin) – October 25, 2026, 4 p.m. ET

Apple TV took over the broadcasting rights in the US on a multi-year deal starting in the 2026 season.

“F1 is a rapidly growing force in sports and culture in the US, and by bringing F1 on Apple TV live to IMAX theatres nationwide, we’re delivering the energy and excitement to even more screens in a truly immersive way,” Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of music, sports, and Beats, told Motorsports.com.

This wouldn’t be the first time the sport hit the big screen.

Apple and IMAX’s announcement comes just shy of a year after the success of “F1: The Movie,” which starred Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. The movie was produced, in part, by Apple Studios.

“F1 The Movie” debuted on June 27, 2025 with $55.6 million in North American theaters and $144 million globally over the weekend, which handed the tech company its biggest opening yet. It ended up grossing more than $630 million at the global box office during its theatrical run, according to estimates.
