CHICAGO—Despite surveillance footage capturing the driver exiting the SUV and abandoning the vehicle with an injured passenger inside, authorities have yet to make any arrests following a fatal crash in the Chicago Lawn area.
One month after the incident, the family of Damian Gomez is urging for prompt justice as their frustration continues to grow.

“I haven’t been informed of anything so far,” said Claudia Torres, the mother of Gomez.
On Tuesday, Gomez’s family revisited the site at the intersection of 63rd and Kedzie, where the 18-year-old tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run while delivering food for DoorDash on his bicycle.
“Since the accident, I avoid coming here because it’s too painful,” Torres expressed.
The security footage reveals a red SUV crashing at the intersection. According to police, the driver disregarded a traffic signal in the early hours of April 5, colliding with Gomez and another vehicle.
The driver is then seen getting out of the SUV and walking away from the scene. A woman, police say, was left in that SUV with critical injuries.
And still, no arrests have been made. Now, this intersection marks a family’s pain and relentless journey for answers and justice.
“There’s a lot of evidence. And, like I said, I’m just waiting for them to tell me that they captured the person. I know it’s been so long, but I have faith that they’ll do something about it,” Torres said.
ABC7 reached out to Chicago police, who said, at this time, there are still no updates in the case, and the investigation remains ongoing.
