A trailer packed with fireworks unexpectedly ignited and erupted into a spectacular explosion on a Tennessee highway this past Saturday. Remarkably, the truck towing the trailer emerged unscathed from the fiery chaos, as captured in riveting video footage.
On Saturday evening, traffic ground to a halt on I-75 North in Hamilton County, Tennessee, when smoke began to billow from a white pickup truck parked on the roadside.
During its journey, the trailer hitched to this truck mysteriously caught fire, setting off a chain of dramatic events.
Responding to the emergency, the Chattanooga Fire Department and the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene, while other agencies worked diligently to divert traffic away from the unplanned and explosive fireworks display, as reported by WKRN.
Local resident Cameron Parker, curious about the commotion, discovered the unexpected fireworks spectacle while investigating the scene.
“What is happening?” Parker exclaimed as he approached a guardrail on a bridge overlooking the highway below.
As Parker settled beside other curious onlookers, he saw smoke rising in the distance — and dozens of fireworks going off all at once. Sparks bounced across the highway as witnesses watched on in apparent bewilderment.
“Is this the grand finale?” Parker joked as the fireworks slowly fizzled out.
“This is nuts. I literally pulled off to the side of the road because I heard it before I saw it, and then I came across this bridge back here. This is absolutely crazy,” Parker said.
Parker’s video of the fireworks display went viral and has been viewed more than 3 million times as of Sunday evening.
Photos shared by the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department showed the trailer’s smoldering remains as firefighters hosed it down. The white truck that it was hitched to appeared largely unscathed, save for a few scorch marks.
No injuries were reported and traffic started slowly inching forward closer to 11 p.m. — more than three hours after the highway was shut down, WSMV reported.
