FBI Most Wanted fugitive captured in Mexico after 10 years on run

After nearly a decade on the run, one of the FBI’s Most Wanted fugitives has been apprehended in Mexico. Authorities announced on Saturday that Alejandro “Alex” Rosales Castillo was taken into custody, ending his long evasion following the murder of his ex-girlfriend.

Rosales Castillo, now 27, was captured in the city of Pachuca. He is set to be extradited to North Carolina, where he faces charges for the 2016 murder of Truc Quan “Sandy” Ly Le.

Ly Le, aged 23 at the time, was found dead from a gunshot wound to the head on August 9, 2016. Her body was discovered discarded in a ravine in a secluded area near Charlotte. Authorities quickly identified the then-17-year-old Rosales Castillo as a prime suspect.

Cops found Ly Le’s vehicle in Phoenix on Aug. 15, 2016, and cameras captured Rosales Castillo crossing into Mexico from Nogales, Ariz., the following day. He had not been seen since.

“For nearly ten years, he lived as if untouchable, but our dedicated investigators were relentless in their pursuit of justice,” stated FBI Charlotte agent James C. Barnacle Jr. in a weekend announcement.

Details surrounding the arrest of Rosales Castillo remain limited. He was apprehended in Pachuca, located approximately 1,000 miles southeast of Nogales, the point of his entry into Mexico almost ten years prior.

At the time of the murder, Rosales Castillo and Ly Le were colleagues at a restaurant in Charlotte. Reports indicate that he owed her around $1,000. On August 9, they agreed to meet, but instead of settling the debt, Rosales Castillo allegedly forced Ly Le to withdraw even more money before killing her and fleeing to Arizona in her vehicle.

Rosales Castillo worked with his new girlfriend, then-19-year-old Ahmia Feaster, to carry out the crime, according to investigators. Feaster surrendered to police in October 2016 after about two months on the run.

The following year, a third person, Felipe Ulloa, was arrested in the case and charged with being an accessory to murder after the fact. While Feaster was seen on video fleeing to Mexico with Rosales Castillo, cops did not release further details about Ulloa’s involvement.

In 2020, the Investigation Discovery show “In Pursuit with John Walsh” dedicated an episode to searching for Rosales Castillo in Mexico.
