Fundraiser for lone Lindsay Clancy holdout juror raises nearly $85K

A crowdfunding campaign for the lone juror whose dissent ended Lindsay Clancy’s triple-murder trial in a hung jury has collected nearly $85,000. The fundraising effort comes as reports emerge about allegations involving the male juror’s past and as other jurors face scrutiny over the breakdown in deliberations.

The GiveSendGo campaign had received $84,750 toward its $100,000 target by Sunday night. Organizers said the money would help the unidentified juror pay for security, legal representation and income he may have lost amid the backlash over his refusal to join the majority verdict in Clancy’s closely watched case.

The juror has been identified only as a Black man in his 30s. He declined to agree with the 11 other jurors, who concluded that Clancy, 36, was not guilty by reason of temporary insanity after she fatally strangled her three children — 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan — at the family’s home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in January 2023.

Because the jury could not reach a unanimous decision, the judge declared a mistrial.

The fundraiser was launched by Tom Hennessey and used sharply worded language to criticize the defense’s argument. “The country got the full TikTok-diagnostics package. Postpartum. Psychosis. Voices. Trauma. A stack of pill bottles and a sad playlist,” the statement said, adding that supporters of the defense had treated the case as “a self-care story instead of a triple child killing.”

“One juror held his seat. He looked at what she did, not the brand of Zoloft,” the statement continued. It accused the defense of seeking to remove the juror for allegedly failing to follow the standard of reasonable doubt.

“The judge left him on. The jury hung. Mistrial,” the statement said. “Now she can be tried again for killing her children instead of getting a standing ovation for her symptoms.”

The campaign has drawn a flood of supportive messages for the holdout juror. At the same time, reports have raised questions about his personal history, including allegations of domestic violence, an active restraining order and an eviction case tied to unpaid rent.

According to NBC10 Boston, the allegations include a criminal charge filed in September 2021 accusing the juror of grabbing his wife by the throat and throwing her against a dresser.

The same outlet reported that the juror is also subject to an active restraining order sought by his teenage nephew. The nephew alleged that the man pushed him to the ground and repeatedly punched him in the face.

Court records show that the juror divorced his wife after the alleged 2021 incident. The criminal charge was later dismissed.

His former wife told NBC10 Boston that she stopped pursuing the case because she feared testifying could jeopardize her custody of their daughter.

A fellow male juror on the 12-person panel also claimed the juror shockingly wrapped one of the exercise bands Clancy used to kill her children around a water bottle to mimic their strangulation in the deliberation room.

In response to the NBC10 report, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis offered the lone holdout juror “asylum” in the Sunshine State.

“A man objected to allowing a woman to kill her three young kids and get away with it, so NBC is trying to smear that juror, whose identity should be protected. Another low for legacy media,” DeSantis wrote on X on Friday.

“If the juror is being harassed, Florida will provide asylum — I’m sure he’d be welcomed and appreciated.”

Clancy remains in a state-run psychiatric facility, Tewksbury Hospital. Her next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 29.
