GOP Sen. Marshall: Gulf States Should 'Finish the Job' with Iran, 'We've Done Our Job'

During Monday’s edition of CNN’s “The Source,” Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) addressed the situation with Iran, arguing that Gulf nations also bear responsibility. Marshall said the United States has “done our job” and claimed that Iran has been “defanged.” He added that regional partners should now step in to complete what he described as their role, including sending ground forces if necessary, while stressing that American troops should not be the ones “leading the way.”

Marshall said Iran is “decades away from having nuclear weapons,” adding that the U.S. can continue responding to threats as they emerge. He then directed his remarks toward Gulf countries, saying, “We have defanged Iran, now it’s their turn to go in and finish the job that they need to finish.” He argued that those nations should deploy ground troops “if that’s what it takes,” but insisted that U.S. soldiers should not take the lead. “I think that they have a responsibility here as well,” Marshall said. “We’ve done our job.”

Earlier in the interview, Marshall said Iran would “struggle to have nukes in the next decade or so.” However, reports have indicated that Tehran is seeking to rebuild its nuclear program.
