Grace Jones and Janelle Monae kept the crowd energized as they performed together at the Blue Note Jazz Festival held in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park on Monday night.
The ladies kicked off the evening with a four-hour concert as part of BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn!.
Janelle Monae opened the show, followed by Jones, who impressed with her iconic moves, including a high leg lift reminiscent of the Fosse “Hey Big Spender” routine, according to a concert attendee speaking to Page Six.
During the performance, Jones even downed a glass of red wine and seamlessly hula-hooped through an entire encore song. Monae reappeared at the end, joining Jones in a lively dance, “grinding and rolling around on the floor.” “They shared several kisses,” the insider added.
The show ended at 11 p.m., and they brought their high energy fun to Manhattan, where they kept the party going at Ian Schraeger’s Public Roof. We’re told Monae’s pal, nightlife impresario Legendary Damon, hosted an afterparty that kept them dancing until the wee hours.
Jones pulled up to Public in a limo, and donning one of her eccentric looks: a retro-inspired leather aviator helmet and goggles. She and Monae entered the venue togetherr at around 1 a.m., and hung out with New Yorkers such as 1980s it girl, Diane Brill, The Muses and former nightlife mayor Ariel Palitz.
One partygoer described the scene as “super intimate with young dancers and old school nightlife types.”
DJ Tokyo Rose spun tunes, including some of Jones’ hits, which had the crowd singing along and shouting “Happy Pride,” in honor of Pride Month. Meanwhile, Monae “hopped on the mic often” and sang to the crowd, we’re told. The ladies naturally sipped champagne behind the DJ booth In between all of the singing and dancing.
A source, who fled the club at around 3 a.m., told us the party was still raging and, “Grace and Janelle showed no signs of slowing down!”
It was a nightlife reunion of sorts, since Jones was famoulsy a fixture at Schraeger’s original venue, Studio 54.
