In Los Angeles, a unique event promises some relief at the pump, courtesy of two Hollywood stars. Keke Palmer and LaKeith Stanfield, known for their roles in “I Love Boosters,” are set to deliver a pleasant surprise to local drivers by offering free gas at a Shell station on West Pico Boulevard this Tuesday morning, as reported by IndieWire.
The actors will personally refuel the vehicles of the first 70 drivers who arrive, providing a much-needed break from the financial burden of high fuel costs.
“I Love Boosters,” which also features a star-studded cast including Poppy Liu, Eiza González, Will Poulter, Don Cheadle, and Demi Moore, is scheduled to premiere in theaters on May 22.
With gas prices soaring in California, this event is likely to attract significant attention. As of Tuesday, the average price for a gallon of regular gas in the state was approximately $6.15.
Californians face additional financial pressures at the pump, with extra emissions fees and climate program costs adding between 34 and 44 cents per gallon.
California residents are charged an additional 34 cents to 44 cents per gallon for emissions fees and climate programs.
In the Golden Gate State’s San Bernardino County, where gas is at $6.12, drivers are consciously making the trip to the nearby Mojave, Arizona, across the border to fill up at only $4.83 a gallon.
A big contributor to the price difference is that Arizona charges just 18 cents per gallon in tax.
Blue states have also led the way in raising their gas taxes. California’s state excise tax was 30 cents a decade ago — it’s now nearly twice that.
