ICE agent guns down illegal immigrant in Texas who allegedly tried to plow car into him

An ICE agent fatally shot an undocumented immigrant in Texas on Thursday after authorities said the man tried to drive into agents during a traffic stop.

Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national, was killed by officers in Houston after becoming involved in an enforcement operation underway in the city, Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a news release.

According to the agency, Salgado attempted to flee after agents instructed him to stop his vehicle.

Immigration officials alleged that he struck an ICE vehicle, disregarded repeated orders to pull over and then tried to run down an ICE agent with his car.

An ICE agent opened fire, striking the driver. Salgado was taken to a hospital, where he later died, authorities said.

Salgado, whom officials identified as a Mexican national living in the U.S. illegally, had been in the area seeking to hire workers, his son, Ronaldo Salgado, told Telemundo Houston.

The Houston incident is the latest in a string of deadly encounters involving the heavily scrutinized immigration agency and people inside vehicles.

In September 2025, ICE agents in Chicago shot and killed a man after authorities said he crashed into officers and dragged one of them beneath his vehicle.

Anti-ICE activist Renee Nicole Good was shot and killed by immigration agents in Minneapolis after the agency claimed she had attempted to run over one of their own.

That claim was hotly contested by activists and led to protests throughout the city.
