Illinois mother accused of murdering two-year-old son
Prosecutors in Illinois are examining whether the Lindsay Clancy case influenced a disturbing child-murder investigation involving Corie Walsh. Walsh is accused of killing her 2-year-old son, Barrett, in Frankfort, a suburb of Chicago. Senior correspondent Mike Tobin reports on the allegations, including statements Walsh allegedly made during questioning.
Corie Walsh, who had reportedly become fixated on the Lindsay Clancy case before her son’s death, sang part of a song from The Wizard of Oz while investigators questioned her, according to reports.
Court records obtained by The Sun say Walsh, 40, told police she killed her son because she believed he was the “devil” and the “anti-Christ.” During the interview, she reportedly sang her own rendition of “Follow the Yellow Brick Road.”
Walsh faces three counts of first-degree murder in connection with the death of Barrett Walsh, who was found hanging from a rafter in the basement of the family’s suburban Chicago home.

Barrett’s two siblings found him when they arrived home from school on Sept. 1. Police responding to the scene encountered a neighbor performing CPR on the child.
During her interview with detectives, Walsh allegedly launched into a rambling outburst before singing her version of “Follow the Yellow Brick Road.”

Walsh’s attorney, Andrea Lyon, described her client as “psychotic” and denied that Walsh’s interest in the Clancy case was connected to the alleged killing.
“She was psychotic. And this is not a first-degree murder,” Lyon told reporters.
In the period leading up to the alleged killing, Walsh had reportedly become “very invested” in the Lindsay Clancy trial. Clancy, a Massachusetts mother, is accused of killing her three children.

Walsh had discussed the Clancy case in text messages with friends as recently as the morning she allegedly killed her son.
