Hollywood Hills' Fortune Cookie Cake with LA views

Perched high above the expansive landscape of Los Angeles, Yamashiro Hollywood has been offering diners breathtaking city views for over a hundred years.

However, the latest excitement surrounding Yamashiro is all about the dessert finale.

The restaurant has unveiled a whimsical delight called the Fortune Cookie Smash Cake. This dessert, crafted in the form of an oversized fortune cookie, is brought to the table with a small wooden mallet, inviting guests to break open their sweet ending.

Cracking open the chocolate shell reveals an assortment of luxurious chocolate truffles nestled around a personalized fortune.

This engaging dessert was conceived in partnership with renowned pastry chef Chris Ford, the mastermind behind Butter Love & Hard Work. Ford, celebrated for his dramatic break-apart chocolate creations, infuses his unique flair into this exclusive mountaintop dining experience.

Combining both spectacle and decadence, this handcrafted treat is ideal for celebrations and is perfect for capturing those Instagram-worthy moments right before diners take the first swing with the mallet.

Priced around $95, the Fortune Cookie Smash Cake must be ordered at least 24 hours in advance and can be customized with a message, making it a popular choice for birthdays, anniversaries and even surprise proposals. The limited-time dessert adds another reason to visit Yamashiro, where dinner already comes with one of the most cinematic views in the City of Angels.

The storied hilltop property first opened in 1914 as a Japanese-inspired private estate. Today, it stands as one of Southern California’s most recognizable dining destinations, famous for its historic architecture, lush gardens and sweeping vantage point over the glittering skyline.

The experience starts before guests even reach the dining room. Stone pathways wind through peaceful koi ponds and manicured Zen gardens, giving the property the feel of a secluded hillside hideaway tucked above the bustle of Hollywood.

Inside, the mood shifts to warm and romantic. Wood interiors, soft lighting and historic touches set the stage for date nights, celebrations and special occasions.

Several dining spaces offer different perspectives of the city lights below. Guests looking for a dramatic backdrop often gravitate to the Sunset Dining Room, where expansive windows frame Los Angeles stretching for miles. The Skyview Room delivers another coveted perch, especially once night falls and downtown begins to sparkle.

The kitchen leans into a blend of Japanese flavors and contemporary American cooking. Sushi and sashimi share the spotlight with grilled specialties and shareable plates. Crowd favorites include the Ninja and Dragon rolls, spicy tuna crispy rice, Wagyu sukiyaki and earthy matcha soba noodles. A curated list of cocktails and premium sake keeps the evening flowing.

Yamashiro Hollywood is located at 1999 N. Sycamore Ave. Reservations can be made by calling 323-466-5125.
