Two US service members were killed while helping repel a barrage of Iranian ballistic missiles and drones targeting forces in Jordan on Friday, and a third remains missing in action, US Central Command said Saturday.
“On July 17, two U.S. service members in Jordan were killed in action as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks,” the command said in its statement.
“Additionally, one service member is currently missing in action.”
The deaths are the first reported US military fatalities since President Trump ended the cease-fire with Iran last week.

Additional personnel who sustained minor wounds have already returned to duty, according to the military.
The assault included both ballistic missiles and armed drones, with American and partner forces stationed in Jordan among the targets.
An investigation is ongoing.
The attack marks one of the deadliest days for US forces in the Middle East in recent months, underscoring the escalating threat posed by Tehran as tensions continue to boil across the region.
CENTCOM did not disclose where in Jordan the attack occurred or provide details about how the service members were killed, saying it was withholding further information out of respect for the families.
The military declined to identify the fallen troops, saying their names will not be released until at least 24 hours after their next of kin have been notified.
US forces have faced repeated attacks by Iran and its proxy groups across the Middle East in recent days.
