210 Freeway horror as big rig kills woman and injures 32 near Irwindale

A deadly crash brought traffic to a standstill Saturday morning in Irwindale after a semitruck lost control on the 210 Freeway, crossed the center divider and collided with several vehicles. Authorities said one woman was killed and dozens of people were injured in the violent chain-reaction wreck.

Dashcam video obtained by ABC shows the moments leading up to the crash near Irwindale.

In the footage, the big rig appears to drift onto the right shoulder before suddenly veering across the freeway, plowing over the median and into traffic traveling the opposite direction.

The truck later jackknifed, forcing lane closures in both directions and leaving a wide stretch of freeway littered with damaged vehicles and debris.

Additional video shared on the Citizen app showed the chaotic aftermath as first responders arrived at the scene. Officials confirmed that a 58-year-old woman died in the crash.

Thirty-two other people were injured, including 10 who were transported to nearby hospitals. Six of the hospitalized victims were children.

The California Highway Patrol said at least three vehicles were involved, though investigators were still working to determine the full number of vehicles caught in the pileup.

The massive response forced closures on both sides of the freeway for hours before all lanes reopened shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the truck to lose control.

The California Post reached out to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner for comment.
