Israeli President Herzog: Israel 'not dragging' US into war with Iran

Israeli President Isaac Herzog affirmed that Israel is not drawing the U.S. into its conflict with Iran, countering increasing concerns about a potential wider regional clash following the U.S.’s recent strikes on three significant Iranian nuclear sites on Saturday night.

Herzog made this assertion while speaking on CNN’s “State of the Union” with host Kasie Hunt on Sunday, addressing President Donald Trump’s move to deploy bunker-buster bombs and Tomahawk missiles against key Iranian nuclear locations at Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

“We have been clear from the start that we are not pulling America into a war,” Herzog stated. “The choice remains with the President of the United States and his administration since it pertains to America’s national security needs, period. Our intention is not to urge America to engage in war due to Iranian threats against Israel.”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio also reiterated Herzog’s message during an appearance on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo, asserting that the U.S. is “not at war” with Iran.

Rubio added that regime change is “not the goal” and that Washington is still offering a diplomatic path forward.
