CHICAGO () — A woman is facing attempted murder charges after police say she was involved in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a man on Chicago’s North Side last month.
Chicago police said 41-year-old Ivory Buchanan, of Evanston, was taken into custody Thursday.
Investigators allege Buchanan was behind the wheel when 61-year-old Jamie Drozier was struck and injured in West Rogers Park, in the 6100-block of North Ravenswood Avenue, on Sunday, July 26.
Friends of Drozier said they grew worried when he suddenly stopped responding to phone calls and text messages on the day of the crash, which they said was also his birthday. Their concern led them to file a missing person report and put up flyers around his Edgewater neighborhood.
Drozier’s neighbor, Ann Regan, said she was told he had been crossing near Ravenswood and Ridge when a vehicle hit him, leaving him with head trauma.
Regan said Drozier lives by himself and has no surviving relatives, though a close friend had remained at the hospital to support him.
Police said Buchanan has been charged with first-degree attempted murder and two counts of aggravated battery.
No additional details were immediately released.
