The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that occupants in a dark-colored vehicle fired at the victims, leading to the closure of several lanes for hours.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Four individuals were shot — with one eventually succumbing to injuries — while traveling eastbound on I-10 in Jacksonville on Thursday night, as per the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
JSO Sgt. J. Catir said a woman called 911 around 7:45 p.m., saying she had been shot in the area of I-10 East and I-95 North.
When officers responded to the scene, Catir said they found three men and one woman, all of whom/which had been shot.
According to Catir, members of the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the scene, treating one man on-site while transporting the others to a nearby hospital. Sadly, one of the men passed away at the hospital, Catir confirmed.
Catir explained that the four victims were traveling east on I-10 when an exchange of words occurred with people in an unidentified dark-colored vehicle, resulting in the victims being shot multiple times.
Catir said a fifth person, a child, was also in the victims’ vehicle.
“Currently, we do not know the relationship between the involved parties, nor the circumstances of the shooting,” Catir told First Coast News. “As such, this case remains in pending status while we thoroughly investigate and collaborate with the Medical Examiner’s Office.”
The JSO closed the road at the I-10/I-95 split on I-95 South and the Downtown exit. Additionally, the route was blocked from the I-10 exit onto I-95 South to the I-95 Northbound exit to Forest Street.
Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call JSO’s non-emergency number at 904-630-0500. To provide information anonymously, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS.
