Newly surfaced records allege that Karmelo Anthony posed with firearms and sent racist, violent text messages in the months before he fatally stabbed Austin Metcalf.
The 75-page file, obtained by the Daily Mail, details what it describes as troubling conduct in Anthony’s past. According to the report, the material was not shown to jurors during his murder trial because of a “gentleman’s agreement” between prosecutors and the defense.
Among the documents are images showing Anthony holding a handgun in a screenshot from a video he recorded in November 2024 — roughly five months before Metcalf was killed inside a tent at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas.
Another photo, dated May 2024, allegedly shows Anthony, then 16, posing with an AK-47-style rifle alongside three other teenagers.
The dossier also references a Jan. 4, 2025, video that purportedly shows Anthony pointing a gun toward a residence before running away, the Daily Mail reported. The home’s owner or occupant was not identified.
The records further allege that, just one week before the fatal stabbing, Anthony, who is Black, sent a series of racist messages to his girlfriend, Valeria Perez, expressing hostility toward other Black people.
“I f—king despise black bitches,” Anthony allegedly wrote in one message, according to a screenshot included in the documents.
In another message cited in the file, he allegedly wrote, “F—king n—ers,” followed by, “They need to go die.”
In a separate homophobic rant about gay people in June 2021, Anthony told a friend that “These f—king gay people are f—king everything up.” He said he hated then-president Joe Biden because he’s “Gay ASB [as balls],” according to the document.
The text messages also revealed Anthony’s alleged criminal activity and his increasingly violent behavior before the stabbing.
In one text from October 2024, he told Perez he “might gt [go to] jail” after claiming he broke into a neighbor’s home and stole a watch. The next month, he bragged to his girlfriend about bringing a gun and knife to school.
Anthony was convicted and sentenced 35 years in prison — but appealed the conviction and asked for a new trial, which a Texas judge denied.
Collin County Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye said last month at Anthony’s appeal hearing that Anthony’s girlfriend confided to an assistant principal on the day of the murder, April 2, 2025, that Anthony was stalking her after a breakup, and that he was obsessed with fights, guns, and knives.
Anthony also sent a picture of the knife and told his ex-girlfriend, “I’m low key on the verge,” Wirskye said.
“He was spiraling,” the prosecutor added.
A few hours later, Anthony stabbed Metcalf to death under a tent at a track meet at a high school.
Prosecutors agreed not to use any of this evidence in court in exchange for defense lawyers agreeing not to bring up victim Austin Metcalf’s juvenile criminal history, which included graffiti of “vile racist stuff,” Wirskye said.
After Anthony’s appeal was denied, his family is asking supporters to donate some $250,000 to pay for the convicted killer’s appeal after his request for a new trial was shot down last month.
