A woman armed with knives stabbed two people in Times Square on Monday afternoon, then moved toward NYPD officers before police shot her, authorities said.
The attack unfolded shortly before 4:30 p.m. near West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue, a busy stretch of Midtown Manhattan. Police told Fox 5 New York the woman, whom authorities described as emotionally disturbed, stabbed both a man and a woman.
After the stabbings, the suspect ran north toward an NYPD substation, where officers encountered her while she was holding two knives, according to police.

Officers initially used a Taser in an effort to subdue the woman, but police said she kept advancing while armed. Officers then fired, striking her.

The two stabbing victims and the female suspect were taken to hospitals after the incident. Officials did not immediately release their conditions.

Police advised people to stay away from West 43rd Street and Seventh Avenue as investigators worked the scene, warning that traffic and pedestrian delays were expected in the area.
Authorities said the incident does not appear to be terror-related.
It was not immediately clear whether any NYPD officers were injured during the incident.
Police are expected to hold a news conference later on Monday.
