Lansing news: Former employee Devon Johnson charged in deadly shooting of Andrew Coleman at Nippon Paint Automotive Americas

LANSING, Ill. (WLS) — A former employee has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of a worker earlier this month at an automotive paint company in south suburban Lansing, police said.

Lansing police announced Wednesday that Devon A. Johnson, 31, of Thornton, is facing a first-degree murder charge. Authorities said Johnson previously worked at the business where the shooting took place.

The case stems from a June 4 shooting at Nippon Paint Automotive Americas near 170th Street and Oakwood Avenue. Officers responding to reports of an active shooter arrived at the scene and found an employee dead from a single gunshot wound, according to police.

The victim has now been identified as 48-year-old Andrew Coleman of Highland, Indiana, police said.

Investigators searched four large buildings at the facility the day of the shooting, but didn’t find anyone. The investigation drew a massive police response, and people were forced to stay in their homes for hours.

Johnson was arrested recently in Chicago, Lansing police said.

No further information was available and the suspect is expected appear in court in the coming days for his first hearing.
