Since the beginning of Donald Trump’s presidency, major news outlets have frequently engaged in fact-checking his statements, often labeling them as false or misleading. It’s rare to see them simply acknowledge, “Yes, that’s correct.”
However, a shift is occurring at CBS News, where Bari Weiss, the editor-in-chief and founder of The Free Press, has taken the helm. She is pushing for more accountability and striving to reduce the network’s perceived left-leaning bias.
Surprisingly, CBS News recently rated as “true” Trump’s claim during the State of the Union address that the decline in the murder rate during his administration was the largest in history.
I had to read that statement multiple times to confirm I wasn’t dreaming.
This is a notable contrast to the time ABC News anchor David Muir fact-checked Trump on live television during a debate with Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. It was a clear example of media bias.

“This is the biggest decline, think of it in recorded history, the lowest number in over 125 years.” A CBS News fact check has determined that is true.
I had to read that three times just to make sure I wasn’t imagining things.
Remember this, when ABC News anchor David Muir “fact-checked” Trump on live TV during a debate with Kamala Harris during the ’24 presidential election? Talk about putting your hand on the scale:
Flashback: David Muir “fact checks” President Trump by saying FBI data shows violent crime was down.
Trump compared it to the 818,000 job downward revision.
Turns out, yet again, that Trump was right.
