Frank West is facing charges of DUI causing serious bodily injury connected to a crash near SW Bascom Norris Drive and SW Tomoka Terrace.
LAKE CITY, Fla. — A 68-year-old man was arrested late Thursday in connection with a crash in Lake City that left a pedestrian with serious injuries, as reported by the Lake City Police Department.
Frank West faces a charge of DUI causing serious bodily injury, LCPD told First Coast News.
Officials stated that officers were dispatched to the scene at around 10:15 p.m. at the intersection of Southwest Bascom Norris Drive and Southwest Tomoka Terrace.
When they arrived, they found the pedestrian whose identity was not released, suffering from serious injuries, LCPD said.
Police said West was driving a 2010 Cadillac CTS and hit the pedestrian while they were walking along Southwest Bascom Norris Drive.
The LCPD indicated the pedestrian received initial treatment at the scene and was subsequently transported to UF Health Shands in Gainesville for additional medical treatment.
LCPD said investigators noticed damage to the Cadillac’s front right side and windshield, and “embedded hair.”
“Officers noted that the driver of the Cadillac, Frank Daniel West, showed signs of impairment, such as glossy eyes and slow movements,” according to an LCPD release. “Given the crash details, physical evidence, and the driver’s demeanor, officers had probable cause to believe West was impaired during the incident.”
LCPD further informed First Coast News that West was arrested, taken to a hospital for “medical clearance,” and later booked into the Columbia County Detention Center.
“Lake City Police Department is committed to thoroughly investigating all crashes—especially those involving serious injuries,” Lake City Police Chief Gerald Butler said in the release. “We will continue to follow the evidence wherever it leads to ensure accountability and public safety.”
