Manhunt underway after masked gunman allegedly shoots NYC cab driver in face during overnight robbery

New York City police are looking for a masked gunman accused of shooting a 21-year-old cab driver in the face during an overnight robbery in Brooklyn.

The attack occurred at about 4 a.m. Saturday, according to an NYPD statement obtained by Fox 5 New York. Police said the suspect targeted a TLC-licensed livery cab, a type of vehicle generally used for pre-arranged trips rather than passengers hailing rides from the street.

Investigators said the masked individual got into the cab and allegedly threatened the driver while demanding cash and the vehicle’s keys.

As the driver tried to get out of the vehicle, the suspect fired a gun, striking him in the face, authorities said.

“The victim proceeded to exit the vehicle when the unidentified individual discharged a firearm striking the 21-year-old male victim in the face,” police said.

The gunman ran from the scene after taking “an unknown amount of currency,” according to police.
