Mike Rogers Wins Republican Nomination in Michigan Senate Race

Former FBI special agent Mike Rogers has won the Republican nomination for Michigan’s U.S. Senate race, advancing after facing no opposition in the GOP primary.

Rogers was projected the winner shortly after polls closed across Michigan on Tuesday, a swift outcome driven by the absence of any primary challenger. His victory sets the stage for what is expected to be one of the most closely watched and competitive U.S. Senate contests of the midterm cycle, according to the Washington Examiner:

The race opened up after Democratic Sen. Gary Peters (D-MI) revealed he would not run for a third term, instantly turning the Michigan Senate seat into a major pickup target for Republicans as they work to grow their Senate majority.

For Rogers, the campaign marks his second consecutive bid for the Senate. In 2024, he came within striking distance of victory, losing to Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) by about 19,000 votes — roughly one-third of a percentage point — while Donald Trump carried Michigan at the presidential level. That razor-thin margin strengthened Rogers’s standing as one of the GOP’s most viable statewide contenders and helped fuel national Republican support for another run after Peters decided to retire.

In a May interview with – News, Rogers argued that Democrats would bring the same kind of policies to Michigan that Mamdani has pushed in New York City if they prevail in November.

“They’ve all got huge problems here,” Rogers said, claiming that some candidates are “very interested in owning grocery stores and owning every bit of your health care.”

“They want to Mamdani Michigan, according to their own words, some of the delegates’ conversations—that’s the direction they want to go,” he added.
