Missouri woman federally indicted over chilling death threats sent to Austin Metcalf's family

A Missouri woman has been federally indicted in Texas after allegedly threatening the family of Austin Metcalf in the aftermath of Karmelo Anthony’s conviction in the teenager’s killing.

Sharifa Nicole Henderson, 34, was arrested in Kansas City on Sept. 11, two days after a federal grand jury in the Eastern District of Texas charged her with three counts of transmitting interstate threats.

Anthony’s trial ended June 9. Federal prosecutors say Henderson made three separate death threats against the Metcalf family over the next two days.

According to the indictment, Henderson sent a Facebook Messenger message to a member of the Metcalf family on June 10, threatening to kill the person and place them in a body bag. She allegedly added, “now this is a threat take me to court [expletive].”

Later that same day, Henderson allegedly called the Collin County government, which prosecuted Anthony, and threatened to “demolish” the Metcalf family and “strangle” one of its members, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors allege Henderson made a third threat on June 11, again using Facebook Messenger to contact a member of the family.

“Don’t worry I’ll kill you next,” she allegedly wrote, according to the indictment. “I will hunt you forever until I kill you…I will be there. You will always have to look over your [expletive] shoulder.”

Each charge carries a maximum sentence of five years in federal prison if Henderson is convicted.

Jeff Metcalf, Austin’s father, recently told FOX 4 Dallas-Fort Worth that the family has faced more than 100 threats since the murder trial concluded.

The case attracted national attention and intensified racial tensions. Anthony’s supporters criticized the absence of Black jurors and demanded an acquittal, while supporters of the Metcalf family gathered outside the courthouse to call for justice.

Anthony, now 19, was convicted more than a year after fatally stabbing 17-year-old Metcalf during a regional high school track meet at Kuykendall Stadium in Frisco, Texas, on April 2, 2025.

Investigators said Anthony, who was then a student at Centennial High School, walked to the Memorial High School team’s tent and sat beneath it.

Metcalf, a Memorial High School student, allegedly told Anthony to leave. Prosecutors said the confrontation escalated, ending when Metcalf was stabbed in the chest.

Surveillance video released later showed Anthony fleeing the tent. Police reports obtained by News Outlet said Anthony told officers during his arrest, “I’m not alleged, I did it.”

Authorities later said they found no evidence that the two teenagers knew each other before the encounter.

A Collin County jury sentenced Anthony to 35 years in prison. A judge denied his request for a new trial last month, but his family is preparing to pursue another appeal.
