The investigation into a navy commander by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office has been ongoing since July 2025.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A navy commander has been apprehended on charges related to child sex offenses, as reported by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office revealed that their inquiry into Navy Commander Jonathan Saburn, 44, who also serves as the Deputy Director of Naval Academy Sailing, commenced in July 2025 after a victim came forward with allegations of “delayed incidents of abuse.”
Sheriff’s deputies stated that Saburn allegedly participated in inappropriate actions and touching on multiple occasions when the victim was a minor, incidents that purportedly occurred in St. Johns and Duval counties.
Saburn was taken into custody on Friday while on duty at Naval Station Mayport. He is currently being held in Duval County jail without bond.
The charges against him include lewd or lascivious molestation, lewd or lascivious exhibition, and child abuse.
