Newly released police station footage shows the woman serving a lengthy prison sentence for killing a bride on her wedding night crying and moaning shortly after her arrest, offering a stark look at the aftermath of the deadly South Carolina crash.
Jamie Lee Komoroski, now 27, had been bar-hopping in Folly Beach before getting behind the wheel of a rented Toyota Camry and crashing into a golf cart carrying newlyweds Samantha and Aric Hutchinson and two wedding guests as they left a beachside reception on April 28, 2023.
Authorities said Komoroski was driving 65 mph in a 25 mph zone and had a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit when she struck the cart, killing 34-year-old Samantha Hutchinson and seriously injuring her 36-year-old husband, Aric, along with their guests.
At the crash scene, Komoroski did not accept responsibility, telling officers she “didn’t do anything wrong” as she was taken into custody.
That posture appeared to continue inside the Folly Beach police station, where footage obtained by WCSC shows her crying, complaining and repeatedly demanding that officers allow her to call her father.
“I just wanna like, get this over with and go home,” Komoroski said tearfully while seated with her hands cuffed behind her back, wearing a sports bra, an open flannel shirt and ripped black jeans.
“I can’t call my dad?” she asked in disbelief, before an officer told her she was not yet permitted to make a phone call.
“Well, what did I do?” she then asked, appearing to deny the devastation from the fatal Folly Beach DUI crash that had unfolded only minutes earlier.
“Nobody has any proof of anything that I did, so give me the right to call my dad,” she commanded.
At that moment she appears to notice the wall-mounted camera in the room, which she addressed directly.
“Oh, hi camera, yeah I’m crying because he’s not letting me call my f–king father, even though they haven’t proven s–t and don’t have any right for me not to be able to contact my family or anyone that I want to, so yeah, hello, I’m crying,” she said to the inanimate object.
“Ooh, I’m being just a little baby,” she said, affecting a mocking tone.
Komoroski was sentenced to 25 years in prison after she pleaded guilty to felony DUI, two counts of DUI causing great bodily injury or death and reckless homicide.
