A high-ranking police official in New York is facing serious allegations after authorities accused her of acting as her son’s getaway driver following an alleged gang-related shooting in New York City, according to a Tuesday report from the New York Post.
Police sources told the Post that Jennifer Lackard, who served as a deputy police commissioner with the Mount Vernon Police Department, was taken into custody Tuesday morning at her home along with her 20-year-old son, Chase Lackard. Investigators allege Chase opened fire on rival gang members near the Bronx Criminal Court in late June.
After the gunfire, sources said, Chase allegedly ran to his mother’s vehicle, where Jennifer Lackard was waiting, before she drove away from the scene.
Authorities said no injuries were reported in connection with the shooting.

Jennifer Lackard and Chase Lackard are both facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a firearm, conspiracy and reckless endangerment.

The Mount Vernon Police Department announced Tuesday that Lackard had been fired, effective immediately.
“The allegations are unrelated to her duties with the Mount Vernon Police Department and do not stem from any conduct associated with the Department or the performance of her official responsibilities,” the department said in a statement posted on social media.

The incident was far from Chase’s first run-in with law enforcement. He was shot by police in 2024 after allegedly wielding a gun during an argument.
He was also shot once before in 2023 by three other youths during a dispute on a bus. Chase is allegedly a member of the “Slutty Gang,” according to the Post.
He reportedly demanded to know what gang the other youths belonged to and then attempted to drag one of them off the bus before being shot in the chest.
