Federal immigration agents shot and wounded a suspected migrant gang associate in the Bronx on Thursday as the man’s 5-year-old son sat inside his SUV, prompting an angry crowd of bystanders to confront the armed officers.
The confrontation unfolded outside 2 Marble Hill Ave. at about 4:20 p.m., when federal agents attempted to arrest the 28-year-old man, according to sources familiar with the incident.
Video posted online captured one bystander shouting that agents had shot the man inside the vehicle and pointing out that the officers were carrying AR-style rifles. The witness repeatedly identified them as ICE agents.
The wounded man, who was struck in the neck, was shown sitting handcuffed on the pavement as many as a dozen agents converged on the area and worked to hold back onlookers. He was expected to survive.
The child, whose identity was not released, was not hurt.
Footage from the scene showed police removing a handcuffed man from a silver SUV while armed federal agents surrounded the vehicle and pedestrians began gathering along the sidewalk.
A man wearing a construction vest and a badge around his neck paced near the SUV with a semi-automatic rifle, warning bystanders to stay away.
“I was in the store on Broadway and someone said someone’s getting shot,” a witness who saw the aftermath told The Post. “And then I came out and there was someone on the ground in handcuffs.”
“There was a guy holding a gun up, looking around in case someone wanted to interfere,” the witness added. “He was ICE.”
Sources said federal authorities were investigating whether the wounded man had connections to the migrant moped gang linked to the shooting of an off-duty Border Patrol agent at Fort Washington Park last year.
The NYPD said its officers had no role in the operation.
“At around 4 p.m. today, there was a shooting involving federal law enforcement agents in the Marble Hill neighborhood of the Bronx,” the NYPD said in a post on X. “The NYPD was not involved in the incident and was not on scene at the time of the shooting.
“The individual who was shot is at a nearby hospital and is currently conscious and receiving medical attention,” the department said.
ICE officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and additional details about the shooting remained unavailable.
By Thursday evening, roughly 40 anti-ICE protesters had gathered near the scene, chanting, “ICE out of New York Now!”

Iris Rosa, 67, who has lived in Marble Hill for three decades, said she feared becoming a “victim” when the gunfire erupted as she turned onto the street.
“We were turning the corner when the shots rang out. And I heard this — ‘pow,’ ‘pow,’ ‘pow’ — like really loud shots,” Rosa said.
“We ran for our lives. Everyone ran. The children were running down the block for their lives.”
Rosa said that after the shooting, a person who appeared to be an ICE agent was holding the child who had been inside the SUV.
She said the wounded man was covered in blood and appeared to have “cuts around his neck.”
Mayor Zohran Mamdani and other lawmakers expressed outrage at the ICE-involved shooting and called for federal agents to stay away from the city.
“This is an unconscionable and incredibly serious situation. I have called the President; when we speak I will demand that he ends all ICE enforcement actions in our city. I will not stand by while ICE agents terrorize our communities,” Hizzoner said.
“Get ICE out of our neighborhoods. Get ICE out of our hospitals. Get ICE off our streets. Get ICE away from our children,” he continued. “Abolish ICE.”
Congressman Adriano Espaillat, who represents Upper Manhattan and parts of the Bronx, said he was on the scene after being briefed by the NYPD.
“I am demanding all body camera footage and evidence be preserved, a full investigation with full cooperation from the federal government, and accountability,” Espaillat wrote in a post on X. “ICE is a rogue agency that must be reigned in.”
City Council Speaker Julie Menin also released a statement calling for a full investigation into the shooting and said she was “deeply worried” about immigrant New Yorkers’ “anxieties” following the incident.
“I recognize the immense fear that ICE’s actions have caused immigrant New Yorkers, and I’m deeply worried about the additional anxiety and uncertainty this incident may bring to communities across our city as we await answers.”
“We expect federal authorities to provide a full and transparent accounting of the circumstances surrounding this incident,” Gov. Kathy Hochul separately said of the incident in a post on X.
“New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why,” Hochul said.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani blasted the shooting as “unconscionable” and said he has called President Trump to demand that he end ICE enforcement in the Big Apple.
