NYC Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels makes $363K -- more than Mayor Mamdani: source

New York City Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels commands an impressive annual salary of $363,000, as revealed by The Post.

In comparison, his superior, Mayor Zohran Mamdani, receives a yearly compensation of $258,750 from city funds.

Samuels enjoyed a substantial salary increase of over $100,000 when he transitioned from his role as district superintendent to lead the Department of Education, a position personally offered by Mamdani.

Despite the significance of this salary, City Hall has not made Samuels’ earnings public and has ignored several requests from The Post for confirmation, a decision that has left good government advocates puzzled.

“Failing to disclose this information is far from transparent and contradicts the promises made to the public. Wasn’t transparency one of Mamdani’s key commitments? We are eager to see that promise fulfilled,” remarked Zilvinas Silenas, President of the Empire Center, to The Post.

Attempts by The Post to obtain comments from Mayor Mamdani and the Department of Education have gone unanswered.
