Olympic Gold medalist Kyle Snyder arrested in Ohio prostitution sting

Police said Snyder was one of 16 men during the operation on May 9.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Kyle Snyder, a former Ohio State wrestler and Olympic Gold medalist, was taken into custody during a prostitution sting operation, as confirmed by the Columbus Division of Police on Monday.

Columbus Police Sgt. Joe Albert stated that the Police and Community Together (PACT) unit conducted the covert operation on the north side of the city on May 9. The goal of the operation was to curb prostitution activities.

At approximately 8:15 p.m., police officers began receiving texts and calls from an individual replying to one of their advertisements. The police coordinated a meeting at a nearby hotel as part of the operation. Roughly 20 minutes later, Snyder arrived at the hotel, paid cash to an undercover officer, and solicited a sexual act, according to the department.

Snyder was arrested for engaging in prostitution by uniformed officers inside the hotel room, according to Albert. He was released from custody at the scene.

He was summoned to appear in court on May 19.

Snyder became the youngest American wrestler to win Olympic gold when he achieved the feat at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games, and then he claimed silver at the Tokyo Games.

He was a three-time NCAA champion at Ohio State and has won three world championships.

Last week, Snyder signed with the Real American Freestyle wrestling league.

Snyder is expected to appear in court on May 19.

Albert said Snyder was one of 16 men during the operation.
