At least two people, including at least one child, were hospitalized following a shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, authorities said. The suspected shooter was killed.
The precise number of victims remained unknown, Bend Police communications manager Sheila Miller said during a Thursday news conference. At least two people were transported to St. Charles Medical Center, and Miller confirmed that children were among those affected. Officials had not released an update on their conditions.
Police were first alerted shortly before 1 p.m. local time after receiving a report that someone had fired a shot into a vehicle, Miller said. Officers reached the scene within about three minutes and soon learned that the suspected gunman had died. Miller said investigators had not determined who shot the suspect, noting that the fatal gunfire “may have been a bystander.”
