Pence: Trump's Iran Deal 'Smacks of Appeasement'

Former Vice President Mike Pence sharply criticized President Donald Trump’s emerging deal with Iran during a Tuesday appearance on CNN’s “The Source,” saying the arrangement “smacks of appeasement.”

Pence framed his concerns around Iran’s long-running hostility toward both the United States and Israel, describing Tehran as an adversary that cannot be taken at its word. He said he had supported Trump’s past decisions to confront Iran directly, both last year and again this year, and argued that the president had earned some room to pursue an end to the conflict. Even so, Pence made clear that he remains deeply skeptical of any agreement involving the Iranian government.

Drawing on his experience in the White House and his time on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Pence said his distrust of Iran is rooted in years of exposure to intelligence and policy discussions. He characterized Iran’s record, especially on its nuclear ambitions, as “a legacy of lies,” and said that history makes him wary of the terms now being discussed.
