The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said the two individuals detained were taken to the Police Memorial Building to be interviewed.

In Jacksonville, Florida, a shooting occurred in the Brentwood area on Friday night, leaving one person dead and another in critical condition. Two people have been detained in connection with the incident, as reported by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

JSO Sgt. Matthews said just after 10 p.m., patrol officers were sent to the 900 block of West 23rd Street in reference to the shooting.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two males with gunshot wounds. Both were transported to a nearby hospital, where one succumbed to his injuries and the other remains in “critical, but stable condition,” according to officer Matthews.

Matthews further told First Coast News that two people were detained and taken to JSO’s headquarters downtown to be interviewed.

Details about what led to the shooting and the connections between those involved remain unclear. However, Matthews noted that the event is thought to be an isolated occurrence.

JSO’s homicide and crime scene units are actively investigating the incident, Matthews said.

Anyone who has information about the shooting is encouraged to contact the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office’s non-emergency line at 904-630-0500. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-866-845-TIPS.
