President Donald Trump on Thursday issued a directive to the U.S. Navy, instructing them to target and destroy small boats laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump shared this directive via a post on Truth Social.
“I have commanded the United States Navy to shoot and kill any small boats, no matter their size, if they are placing mines in the waters of the Strait of Hormuz. This action is to be carried out without hesitation,” he stated.
He further noted, “Our mine-clearing operations are actively underway in the Strait. I am ordering these efforts to be intensified threefold. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

This directive follows closely on the heels of Trump’s announcement earlier in the week that the ceasefire with Iran would be extended. This decision came after Vice President JD Vance’s scheduled diplomatic trip to Islamabad for peace negotiations did not occur, as the initial two-week ceasefire period neared its end.
Based on the fact that the Government of Iran is seriously fractured, not unexpectedly so and, upon the request of Field Marshal Asim Munir, and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, of Pakistan, we have been asked to hold our Attack on the Country of Iran until such time as their leaders and representatives can come up with a unified proposal. I have therefore directed our Military to continue the Blockade and, in all other respects, remain ready and able, and will therefore extend the Ceasefire until such time as their proposal is submitted, and discussions are concluded, one way or the other. After anonymous-sourced reporting suggesting the president was considering a three-to-five-day extension, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters Thursday afternoon that Trump had “not set a firm deadline to receive an Iranian proposal.”
