A 53-year-old man was fatally attacked with a two-by-four inside a Queens park Tuesday morning, and police are searching for the person responsible, authorities said.
Officers were called to Rufus King Park in Jamaica at about 8:40 a.m. after reports of an assault and found the man suffering from severe head trauma, according to the NYPD.
The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
Investigators believe the attacker picked up the piece of wood from a nearby debris pile before striking the man, who allegedly knew the assailant, law enforcement sources told The Post.
Police have not disclosed a possible motive in the deadly Queens park assault, and no suspect information has been publicly released.
“This is a park I go to all the time,” resident Ami Mulbah told NBC-TV News. “It’s usually super safe. I’m actually quite shocked that there was a homicide.”
Another frequent visitor, Gabriela Soto, told the station she had stopped police earlier in the summer after seeing a woman acting strangely and threatening people in the park with a two-by-four.
“She was trying to just get someone,” Soto said.
