The rapper Soulja Boy, originally from Chicago, was taken into custody early Sunday in Los Angeles for allegedly possessing a firearm as a convicted felon, as reported by the authorities.

Details surrounding the arrest are scarce, but according to a spokesperson from the Los Angeles Police Department, it happened around 2:30 a.m. during a traffic stop in the Fairfax District.

Soulja Boy, 35, whose real name is Deandre Cortez Way, was booked at the LAPD’s Wilshire Division on suspicion of felony charges, according to the agency.

Recently, a jury ordered Soulja Boy to pay $235,900 in punitive damages to a woman who claimed the rapper verbally abused her, kicked her, stomped on her stomach, and hit her head with a large gun during a 2019 party at his Malibu residence.

In April 2023, the jury awarded the woman the same amount in compensatory damages for the incident at the party, in which the “Crank That” singer allegedly committed the violent acts.

Back in December 2016, Soulja Boy was arrested at his Hollywood Hills home after officers found a gun. At that time, he was on probation, according to the LAPD.
