Remember That Laughable Spike Lee-Colin Kaepernick Documentary? There's Been a Major Update

Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick has resurfaced in the news, and it might just bring a smile to your face. The Spike Lee ESPN documentary series about the former NFL player is reportedly not moving forward.

It seems that Kaepernick’s self-praising series was too much even for the Disney-owned sports network ESPN, as the project, initiated three years ago, has been put on indefinite hold. This was confirmed by the film’s director, Spike Lee, who indicated that the project has been shelved, according to a Reuters report.

“It’s not coming out, that’s all I can say,” Lee remarked at a recent red carpet event, citing a nondisclosure agreement that limits him. “I can’t. I signed a nondisclosure. I can’t talk about it.”

Shortly after he made comments, they were backed by a statement from the sports network.

“ESPN, Colin Kaepernick, and Spike Lee have collectively decided to halt the progression of this project due to certain creative differences,” ESPN stated in a statement released to the media.

“Despite not reaching finality, we appreciate all the hard work and collaboration that went into this film,” it added.

The initiative, aimed at providing a “comprehensive, firsthand account” of Kaepernick’s transition from the NFL field to social justice advocate, began its development in 2022, the New York Post reported.

The NFL’s woke obsession really got started after Kaepernick took a knee on the sidelines during the national anthem in 2016. As you can imagine, everyone hated it, and eventually, Kaepernick became a distraction. He last played in the NFL on January 1, 2017.

His self-focused promotional tour was then underway, with Netflix subjecting the world to a six-episode bio series about Kaepernick in 2021. And then he actually penned a children’s book titled “I Color Myself Different” in 2022.

And one part from the Netflix series that really stood out was when he attempted to make the ridiculous claim of comparing the NFL combine to a slave auction, which we here at RedState obliterated.

For those who might have missed the six-part series, my colleague Jim Thompson bravely stepped forward for the painstaking job of watching it so you wouldn’t have to, and he shared his thoughts.

He summarized the series perfectly:

“Colin in Black & White” is a collection of Kaepernick’s massive jumps of illogic, revisionist history, and false comparatives. It’s also a collection of self-worship and historical nonsense. Kaepernick clearly views himself as a hero, a messiah to the believers. A lot of people have bought into the cult of Colin. They will never have their minds changed with facts or logic because cults are like that. Kaepernick has created a myth and that’s the world he and his flock inhabit. Employment is slavery, coaching is oppression, everything made by white people is racist, white is bad, black is good. The Cult of Colin.

“Colin in Black & White” isn’t a documentary it’s mythology.

So, clearly, this is a big win for the country with Kaepernick and his woke ilk sidelined again. And, what do you know, it’s happening after President Donald Trump took office again. Coincidence?

I don’t think so.
