The Rainbow PUSH Coalition released a statement indicating that Jackson is “under observation for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a neurodegenerative disorder he has been managing for over ten years.” Initially diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Jackson’s PSP diagnosis was confirmed in April. His family has requested ongoing prayers and support during this challenging time.

At 84, Jackson is widely recognized for his prominent role in the 1960s civil rights movement as an influential aide to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Jackson’s advocacy spans more than six decades, during which he has fought tirelessly for racial equality and economic justice. He made significant bids for the U.S. presidency in both 1984 and 1988.

As a founding member of the Chicago-based Rainbow PUSH Coalition, an organization committed to social justice, Jackson led the group for nearly 30 years until he stepped down in 2023.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
