Riverside school deputy pulled from high school after using force on student

An incident involving a school resource deputy from Riverside County has led to the deputy’s removal from their campus assignment and sparked an investigation. This comes after a video, widely shared on social media, appeared to show the deputy using force on a young individual.

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon, just outside Vista del Lago High School, situated in the 15000 block of Lasselle Street. According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, the deputy was responding to reports of a physical conflict involving students in the vicinity.

As the deputy attempted to detain and handcuff one of the juveniles involved, the situation escalated when the young person reportedly resisted and tried to pull away. This resistance led to the deputy employing force in the encounter.

The confrontation, caught on video and shared on Instagram, quickly drew intense reactions and discussions online, with many expressing concern over the deputy’s actions.

After the altercation, paramedics were called to assess the juvenile, who was subsequently taken into custody under suspicion of battery and resisting arrest.

Paramedics were called to the scene to examine the juvenile before the individual was taken into custody on suspicion of battery and resisting arrest.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy has since been reassigned from the school resource program while an internal investigation takes place.

Officials have not released further details about the incident, which remains under review. It’s unclear if the individual is 14 years old, a detail the post included with the video.

“The Riverside Sheriff’s Office takes each use of force very seriously and makes every effort to de-escalate these situations whenever possible,” the department said in a statement to KTLA. “As with all use-of-force incidents, a review will be conducted to ensure compliance with our policy and training standards.”
