Russia claims US strikes on Iran have opened a ‘Pandora's box' and could lead to global ‘nuclear catastrophe’

The Russian ambassador to the United Nations is asserting that the Trump administration’s severe airstrikes on Iran have unleashed a “Pandora’s box,” potentially paving the way to a worldwide “nuclear catastrophe.”

During an emergency meeting of the Security Council on Sunday, Vassily Nebenzia stated that Russia “strongly condemns the irresponsible, dangerous, and provocative actions carried out by the USA against the Islamic Republic of Iran, a sovereign nation and a U.N. member state.”

“Through its actions, the U.S. has opened Pandora’s box, and no one knows what new consequences this may lead to,” Nebenzia said.

“It should be clear to everyone in this chamber that if we do not halt the escalation, the Middle East could find itself on the edge of a major conflict, bringing unpredictable consequences for the entire structure of international security. This could push the whole world to the brink of a nuclear disaster,” he remarked.

“Iran has informed the IAEA that there was no increase in off-site radiation levels at all three sites,” he added.
