California’s desert region has been drawing unusual attention in recent days.
On Tuesday, I reported on a major law enforcement operation in a remote desert area, where LA Port Police and other agencies dismantled an alleged Sinaloa cartel methamphetamine operation and arrested three suspected gang members.
A day later, violence again erupted in the high desert. A San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputy, identified in some reports as a detective, was shot in the lower rib area while serving a search warrant in the Antelope Valley, north of Los Angeles.
Because the shooting happened within Los Angeles County, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is handling the investigation.
The deputy survived the shooting. The suspected gunman did not.
A San Bernardino County sheriff’s detective was wounded by gunfire in the California desert Wednesday afternoon, prompting a large law enforcement response that ended with the suspected shooter dead.
Authorities said the detective was shot at about 3:15 p.m. near East Avenue R and 130th Street in Littlerock, just east of Palmdale.
